Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP
There are three main components (see benefits and workflow) Fabrication for to AutoCAD MEP
- AutoCAD MEP 2009 – purchased directly from EastCoast CAD/CAM, EastCoast Authorized Resellers or any Autodesk Authorized Reseller.
- Microsoft SQL Server. This free industry standard database allows companies to manage manufacturer specific content from a single network server ensuring every user in the organization uses the most current set of parts, equipment, shop defaults and standards defined within the organization.
- The third component comes from EastCoast. It’s called, Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP. Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP is made up of three sub-systems; Part Manager, Spool Manager and Pickoff Manager.
- Part Manager is the user interface to the SQL Server. It’s used for managing on a per project basis, all of the parts, fittings and shop defaults for any one specific project or sub-system.
- Spool Manager is a multi-discipline tool for creating accurate AutoCAD MEP spool drawings that fabricators can use in the pre-fabrication process. It’s 100% AutoCAD MEP and fully customizable to a customer’s shop standards. As multi-discipline pre-fabrication becomes a more generally accepted practice, customers will want to create spools that include more than piping. Version one of Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP will be specific to mechanical parts, however, future releases will support both mechanical, HVAC and electrical content.
- Pickoff Manager is used directly by those professionals interested in downloading their drawings directly to industry standard CNC cutting machines. It’s a straightforward process of drawing with manufacturer standards and defaults in Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP, downloading to EastCoast’s CAM cutting software, DuctMaker and then directly sending it to a customer’s choice of cutting tables and machines.
