Littleton, Massachusetts (August 10, 2009) – EastCoast CAD/CAM announced today the release of the newest versions of the company’s Mechanical and HVAC CAD and CAM fabrication software solutions, Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP – Pipe and Duct and DuctMaker, the company’s plasma cutting fabrication software. With this latest release, AutoCAD users now have a complete pipe and duct Autodesk-based solution embedded inside the AutoCAD MEP CAD platform. EastCoast will begin shipping its new software solutions to customers who have active subscriptions, and make the software generally available to new subscribers in the coming weeks.
Over the past few years, Autodesk’s AutoCAD MEP has moved to the forefront as one of the leading MEP CAD platforms serving the design needs of the building services industry. What’s been missing up until now has been a “best-of-breed” fabrication toolset fully embedded inside of Autodesk’s MEP solutions. According to David Derocher, President of EastCoast CAD/CAM, “With Version 2.0 of Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP, I am 100% confident we are releasing a software tool that will change the way HVAC, piping and plumbing contractors work for years to come.” Derocher added, “Based on an extensive six month beta and quality assurance testing program, we are releasing a set of fabrication software applications that our customers tell us they need to complete their projects effectively and to remain competitive. Most importantly, this software solution and platform will set them up to be profitable for years to come.”
This new set of CAD and CAM software releases from EastCoast fulfills the joint goals set two years ago between Autodesk and EastCoast. This shared goal of both companies has been to deliver to the Autodesk contractor base, a single CAD platform with one user interface, built on open system standards, which provides a transparent design-to-fabrication workflow for the plumbing, piping and HVAC contractor.
The core functionality users have been asking Autodesk and EastCoast to deliver is to work in a single building information environment, from Design to Fabrication™. Professionals in the MEP trades have been searching for a single Autodesk platform solution, with absolute interoperability, that allows users to utilize the model created during the design phase of the project for fabrication without redrawing, exporting, enabling viewers, or performing other manual, time-consuming steps. With AutoCAD MEP and Eastcoast’s embedded Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP, that automated Design to Fabrication workflow is now a reality.
One of the driving forces in the building services industry is the methodology and workflows associated with Building Information Modeling (BIM). One of the core tenets to this methodology is the ability to create, manage, generate and report on all types of building data related specifically to MEP objects that make up the drawing and are ultimately used to construct the actual project. To this end the AutoCAD MEP environment provides EastCoast an excellent staging platform to provide extensible and real manufacturer content for customers to use within this workflow methodology. To take this workflow one step further, EastCoast has partnered with the two leading North American aggregators of mechanical data, Harrison Publishing House and Trade Service.
David Quigley, EastCoast’s Director of Product and Business Development stated, “After a year of working with leading North American mechanical contractors, the need to associate EastCoast’s embedded AutoCAD MEP objects and content with current pricing and other extended detail became an important requirement for our Version 2.0 content release.” Quigley added, “In order to fulfill that requirement EastCoast developed strategic relationships with the leading mechanical content providers, which will allow users to have access to all kinds of mechanical content detail at any stage throughout their project life-cycle.”
According to Harrison President David McPhaul, Jr., “EastCoast CAD/CAM is the recognized leader for fabrication tools in the MEP space. Our partnership with EastCoast will enable up to 26 million contractors, architects, engineers and other end users worldwide to access both EastCoast’s best-of-breed CAD and BIM solutions and Harrison’s industry-leading rich content product information, soon to be readily accessible from Autodesk’s AutoCAD® software platform.”
Tod Moore, Trade Service Vice President of Sales and Marketing, stated, “As Building Information Modeling begins to take hold within the construction space, we want to stay at the forefront from the content perspective. And our partnership with EastCoast CAD/CAM gives us a significant entrée into this area, allowing us to offer EastCoast users some of the key data underpinning that BIM methodology requires, through our TRA-SER pricing program.”
