ASHRAE, New York, New York (Monday, February 21, 2008) – EastCoast CAD/CAM announces a joint development agreement with Autodesk, Inc., the world leader in 2D and 3D design software for the manufacturing, building and construction, and media and entertainment markets.
This strategic joint development agreement between the two companies combines EastCoast CAD/CAM’s HVAC, sheet metal and piping fabrication expertise with Autodesk’s expertise in developing design & documentation applications for the MEP industry. Both EastCoast and Autodesk believe that the fabrication and contractor segments are important markets that will benefit from an integrated practice approach that leverages the information contained in a building information model (BIM).
David Derocher, President of EastCoast CAD/CAM states that contractors are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of interoperability and software compatibility. In a recent industry funded research study completed by the New Horizon’s Foundation called, “Impact of Incompatible Software on HVAC and Sheet Metal Contractors theauthors discovered that the lack of interoperability between software tools used in the HVAC and Sheet Metal industry alone accounts for an estimated 30.90 worker hours in data reentry for every million dollars worth of project. According to Derocher, “This study’s findings illustrate the value of interoperable and compatible software working together within a single industry standard platform.”
